Today I bought a car which is Phase II of moving home to Australia. (Phase I was getting a job, Phase III is finding a home).

I have a total couple crush on Zoe Lister Jones and Daryl Wein. Which sounds creepily like I want to be at a party where they throw their keys in a bowl. But no.

I enjoyed Breaking Upwards, they seem adorable, and now they wrote this move, Lola Versus which looks a LOT like something I will enjoy.

I mentioned to my Mum that Earl Scruggs died.

Then she told me a story that basically went ” You know we saw him play, at the Grand Ole Opry (in Nashville). We didn’t know he was going to be on, and when he came on stage your father leaped out of his chair and started yelling. It was probably the most excited he’s ever been”

My heart broke a little.

And then conversation moved on to how old Earl would have been 80 in the shade and had a pretty good innings.

If you know anyone ANYONE in Sydney at the moment, you’ll know that we can’t stop complaining about the rain. Sydney-siders HATE bad weather. Mostly because we’re spoiled and it’s usually, basically, magical.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been living over by the beach, back when it was sunny. Basically soaking up some of the best of Sydney.

On a walk I discovered there’s a lady pool up in the rocks south of Coogee - McIvers Baths. It’s basically delightful even if it sounds entirely daggy. Sure there are lots of lesbians, but also lots of grannies, groups of Jewish and Muslim ladies, and standard eastern beaches backpackers. The area consists of a series of ledges and grassy knolls and rocky outcrops that lead down to the ocean pool. It’s all a bit nymph-like and calming.

Did I mention it costs 20cents to get in? Yep, 20cents. What can you buy for 20cents these days? Nothing.

One day I was there, sitting next to a group of teenage girls who were chattering and texting away as teenies do, when the giggling reached a fever pitch. I looked up to discover a Council workman had come in to fix a drain issue and that the bikini clad group of teens had turned into a swaddled mass of burkas.

I love it there. The waves crash into the pool and spray the sunbathers. Everyone is friendly and kind to eachother.

OK, there are a lot of boobs. I mean a LOT. Which is disconcerting only because I didn’t realise it was the menfolk who were keeping our tops on. I thought it was just polite society. Who knew?

(To get a decent photo, I had to steal one from flickr lest I capture a naked lady and be turfed out.But the view and the feet are mine.)
